Hope…prayers…and modern medicine…is what many believe is a winning combination in overcoming cancer, and this is what Colleen Neville is hanging her hat on.
Colleen has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer, found through her own self exam. From the very beginning, this devoted mother of 3 children instantly thought of her kids and her husband Jim. “How am I going to tell our children ~ Dominic, Sean and Dena? How are they going to take the news? How can I protect our children and my husband from this ugly disease?”
With the numerous people who know and love Colleen, she quickly got her answer through the overwhelming response of love and support as her family and friends walk with her in faith after hearing her diagnosis. As the realities of the illness, treatment and recovery unfold in the upcoming weeks and months, it is this very same love and support that is providing the best medicine for Colleen. There is an ancient saying, “Giving is its own reward.” When you give, you receive. In fact, what you receive is directly proportional to what you give. According to Colleen’s sister Molly, this saying is so true about Colleen ~ the sister “who will drop whatever she is doing to help others and is always doing good for someone in need”.
Colleen’s unwavering faith has been ingrained in her by her parents, John and Joan Coughlin. They have instilled in her a courageous spirit and quick wit of legendary Irish humor to handle whatever comes her way. Colleen and her family are very involved in the West Side Irish-American club. Colleen treasures her Irish heritage and draws upon it as a source of faith, hope and love.
Being the Assistant Principal at Magnificat High School is Colleen’s passion and a role she takes very seriously. For over 20 years, Colleen has been sharing her time and talents with the students, faculty and staff at Magnificat. Because of her giving spirit, she has earned the love and admiration of students, parents and colleagues. Colleen loves life and is continually challenging herself to share her gifts with others.
A portion of proceeds from every headband and headscarf purchased will go directly to “NOODLES FOR NEVILLE” a fundraiser created to help meet the significant financial challenges and medical expenses of the Neville family. The fundraiser will take place on May 9th at Magnificat High School beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a mass followed by a spaghetti dinner, silent auction, and games and fun for kids of all ages. To top off the evening, a family movie will be shown in the PAC at 9:00 p.m.
